The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is about to go live and the first fixture is scheduled to take place between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Every year the league brings excitement and thrill among cricket enthusiasts from across the globe. However, for cricketers, IPL brings in an opportunity and hope to shine in front of the national team selectors with their performance and fulfil their dream of being part of one of the most elitist cricket teams in the world – team India.
We have compiled a list of 5 such Indian cricketers who will be hoping to revive their international career.
1) Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals skipper – Rishabh Pant, has been in the headlines because of his unfortunate accident in December 2022.
It is because of his accident Pant had to stay from the national squad and now it has been more than a year the master technician and the gifted Indian wicket-keeper has recovered and will be eyeing to make a comeback to team India by performing exceptionally well in the IPL 2024 edition.
Pant has always been a valuable player for team India and after the win at the Gabba in the 4th Test against Australia, he cemented his space in the red-ball format for team India and in the white ball he has been a match-winner from the middle order. His presence in Team India will add more strength to the whole squad.
2) Sherya Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders
Shreyas Iyer – the Indian Prodigy, has witnessed a sudden decline in his performance in international cricket and over the months, with consecutive disappointing performances, he has failed to fulfil the expectations for team India.
The last nail in the coffin was when BCCI removed him from the central contract and left no chance for the player to start from scratch. He also failed to perform in the Ranji Trophy tournament and now Iyer has IPL as his last option to get back into Team India.
He is a talented batsman who can save matches for team India at number 4 and will be expected to score quick runs in IPL 2024 as the skipper of KKR.
3) Ishan Kishan – Mumbai Indians
Ishan Kishan has come out as a curious case in team India and he is one of those players who, even after performing at their best, have not got enough chances to play for the team.
He was expected to be part of the ODI squad but was not used enough. Even after scoring a double century in December 2022 against Bangladesh in Chattogram, he was not selected for the playing XI. He recently made headlines when the player returned from South Africa even before the beginning of the Test series and completely disappeared from the scene.
He has not been part of the domestic cricket as well. Kishanβs future is uncertain and it will be only after his performance in IPL 2024, the decision will be made on his future with Team India.
4) Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Sunrisers Hyderabad
Team Indiaβs βSultan of Swingβ Bhuveshwar Kumar had an unfortunate exit from the senior squad after being unable to perform in the shortest format of the game. His career started on a positive note under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and soon the pacer became the most successful bowler for Team India.
However, over the years Bhuvi witnessed a major decline in his pace and ability to swing. BCCI gave him enough chances and even after his hard work, Bhuvneshwar was unable to revive his path and had to eventually face the exit.
However, Bhuvi has done exceptionally well in domestic cricket and will be eyeing to continue the momentum in the IPL as well and make a comeback to the national squad.
5) Prithvi Shaw – Delhi Capitals
Since 2021, Prithvi Shaw has disappeared from the central contract of BCCI and every year the player fails to fulfil the expectations of the national selector.
At one point – the 24-year-old opening batsman, was considered the most talented youngster from the domestic grounds of Indian cricket but eventually, Shaw failed to fulfil the expectations and his run ended sooner than expected.
This year in IPL 2024, Shaw will again try to make headlines with his bat and try to make a comeback in the national squad.
