England
Sri LankaEngland will begin the Sri Lanka tour with the 1st T20I at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. The hosts will enter the match with the better recent record. England have won their last 5 T20Is, while Sri Lanka have suffered 4 defeats in their previous 5 matches.
The head-to-head record also favours England, as they have won all 5 of their last 5 T20Is against Sri Lanka. 3 of those 5 victories will have come while chasing, which could make the toss and second-innings conditions important.
England will also introduce new faces Donald and Crocombe, while Sri Lanka will miss Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando for the white-ball series. With England carrying stronger recent form and a perfect recent head-to-head record, they will be expected to start the series with a win.
Englandβs stronger recent head-to-head record, with the higher opening partnership in four of their last five meetings, gives their top order the edge.

Sri LankaAneurin Donald has been named in Englandβs T20I squad after impressing in domestic cricket. The 29-year-old top-order batter had a T20 strike rate of 214 for Derbyshire and had scored 38 off 19 balls for Trent Rockets in The Hundred final.
He replaced Phil Salt, who will miss the series with a minor quadriceps injury. Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran are also ruled out with knee and groin injuries respectively.
Tom Banton and Will Jacks returned after their recent absences, while Jamie Overton also came back into the squad. Gus Atkinson and Ben Duckett earned T20I recalls after strong Hundred campaigns.
Rehan Ahmed and Luke Wood were left out of the series. The changes from the India T20Is were Atkinson, Donald, Duckett and Overton coming in, with Ahmed, Bethell, Curran, Salt and Wood going out.
Brook, Archer and Buttler are the key players in the team.
Predicted Lineup: Harry Brook (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jos Buttler (wk), Jordan Cox, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid.
Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando are ruled out of Sri Lankaβs T20I series against England as both players were still undergoing rehabilitation from injuries picked up in the 2026 Lanka Premier League.
Kusal had been out since July 19 with a right hamstring injury, while Binura had not played since August 5 because of a back injury.
Charith Asalanka takes over as T20I captain after returning to the leadership group. He had scored 93 runs at a strike rate of 124 in 6 CPL 2026 innings, which is not the best of outings for him.
Pavan Rathnayake replaces Kusal Mendis in the T20I squad, while Dilshan Madushanka comes in for Binura. Kusal remains a possibility for the ODIs, while Asalanka could also lead the ODI side if required.
Nissanka, Asalanka and Malinga are the key players in the team.
Predicted Lineup: Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Udara (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka (c), Pavan Rathnayake, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga, Dilshan Madushanka
England will have the stronger start with Ben Duckett likely to partner Jos Buttler at the top. Duckett will return to T20I cricket after his strong Hundred campaign, while his international experience will give England a settled option in the powerplay.
The hosts will also have a clear recent advantage in this area against Sri Lanka. England will have recorded the higher opening partnership in four of their last five meetings against Sri Lanka.
With Buttler and Duckett expected to attack early and England carrying strong recent form, their opening pair will have a good chance of putting together another solid stand. Sri Lanka will need early wickets to prevent England from gaining an advantage in the first six overs.
