Fastest 150 in ODIs: From AB de Villiers to Chris Gayle

T20 cricket has had its effect on the other formats too as batters tend to be more aggressive in ODIs too. A large number of teams are now trying to accelerate the innings with a very exciting twist to make it a memorable outing for cricket lovers.

150 is a one-day match that was deemed to be very hard but since the inception of the T20 format bowlers have taken a toll on them and a pile of runs has been scored in ODIS. Top bookmakers give really fancy odds on batsman scoring 150 runs as it is not as easy task.

Scoring 150 in any format of the game is not an easy task and only a few batters have achieved this feat in the one-day format of the game.

Top five fastest 150 scored in ODIs so far

AB De Villiers vs West Indies, 64 balls

AB De Villiers was regarded as one of the most jubilant batters in the world as he could bat with ease in all the formats. The former South African batter hit a blasting 162 in just 66 balls in the 2015 World Cup against West Indies 2015.

His shots went all over the park as he welcomed his opponent with 8 fours and 17 sixes and he scored the runs at a tremendous strike rate of 245.

The Proteas went on post a huge 408 at the loss of five wickets and in return West Indies were bowled out for a paltry 151.

Jos Buttler vs Netherlands, 65 balls

Jos Buttler has had his reputation for hitting big in the limited-overs format and he just did that against the Netherlands very recently. Buttler arrived in the 30th over and drove a crucifying assault on the Dutch team.

He went on to start hitting the bowlers as he completed his 150 in just 65 balls, one short of AB De Villiers. He hit 14 sixes and 7 fours in the proceedings as England posted a world record 498 against Holland. Buttler remained unbeaten at 162 in just 70 balls.

Jos Buttler vs West Indies, 76 balls

It seems power hitters do have a favourable opponent in the West Indies. Buttler scored his first 150 of his career in style as he dispatched the Windies for 12 sixes and 13 fours back in 2019.

He completed his 150 in 76 balls and was later adjudged the man of the match for his heroic performance. Incidentally, another stalwart of the game Chris Gayle also scored a brilliant 162 in the very same match.

Shane Watson vs Bangladesh, 83 balls

Shane Watson taught the Bangladesh team a lesson in 2011 when he mercilessly beat them in an ODI. In answer to Bangladesh’s 230, the Aussie batter knocked down their opponent with an outstanding 185 off just 96 balls.

He completed his 150 in just 83 balls and his innings included 16 sixes and 15 fours.

Chris Gayle vs England, 85 balls

Chris Gayle reminded everyone what he is capable of with a brilliant 150 against England in 2019. Riding on Jos Buttler’s 150 the English team set a target of 418.

Gayle did his best as he struck a blistering 162 with 11 fours and 14 sixes. He was unbeaten until the very last ball but couldn’t see off his country as they lost the match by 28 runs.
